Darrin Ebron
Owner and Designer,
Goodlife American Clothing
When the art worlds collide, explosive things can happen. And the amalgam of music, art and fashion are what give designer Darrin Ebron’s life its fireworks. Ebron recently launched Goodlife American Clothing, a line of luxurious tees, tops, tunics, dresses and scarves which debut early 2010, in boutiques nationwide. His first collection, a nod to the Impressionistic period, fuses the emotion of a beautiful piece of art, the vibrancy of a rich color palette and the lavish feel of a fine textile.
But for Ebron, Goodlife is simply the next checkbox on a long list of his “right-brained” interests. Classically trained in four instruments, music has been the center of his world since he was a child growing up in Baltimore. After amassing a collection of 70,000+ albums, he later put himself through college as a DJ (at events which grew to several thousand people). When he got the inkling to sell t-shirts promoting his events, he realized music offered multiple business possibilities.
After graduation, the NY music scene became Ebron’s higher education; he went on to work at the pinnacle labels in R&B and Hip Hop: from BadBoy, to Def Jam to Rocafella, finally landing at Edmonds Entertainment Group (as VP of Marketing)—where everything from album covers to ad campaigns to the artists’ wardrobes came under his scrutiny.
Through it all, Ebron’s love for being a DJ never waned. His calendar was constantly booked for high-profile events for clients like Usher, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Eddie Murphy, Kanye West, Vibe Magazine and the coveted Grammy and Oscar after-parties. In addition, he began a music production company in 2004, where he develops and produces projects for current and upcoming artists.
After two decades immersed in music, Ebron decided his own soundtrack was ready for a shuffle. He dusted off his love of art and hoped to showcase it through Goodlife American Clothing. He spent over a year perfecting what he calls “casual luxury,” with art and color as the thread sewn through each seasonal collection.
“I love color,” he says, “it enhances a woman’s complexion and brings out her natural femininity and sensuality.” For now, Goodlife is on Ebron’s playlist, but the music is never on mute.
